Gargon Projects
Garchen Rinpoche’s
Urgent Fundraising Projects for 2012

Regarding: Urgent request by the Administrative Committee of Gar Monastery
concerning the new construction at Upper Gar Monastery

First: As the number of monks’ quarters existing so far is not sufficient, 27 new monks’ quarters must be constructed. The total size of these quarters is 448 square meters. Each square meter costs $417 (USD), and the total amounts to $186,816 (USD).

Second: In order to well preserve the old representations of enlightened body, speech, and mind, a three-floored temple with golden rooftop ornament must be constructed. In the first floor of the temple a Tara temple will be constructed; in the second floor Lama Mingyur Rinpoche expressed the intention to erect statues and a shrine room of Buddha Shakya-muni, Shariputra, Maudgalputra, and Achi; in the third floor a shrine arrangement for exhibition to be seen by visitors shall be built, so that the old representations of enlightened body, speech, and mind will not become relinquished and destroyed. The size of these temples is 720 square meters. Each square meter costs $500 (USD), and the total amounts to $360,000 (USD). The golden rooftop ornament costs $63,334 (USD). All these together amount to a total of $608,482 (USD).

As there is a definite need for these new structures, the administrative organizations have discussed this matter several times and came to the conclusion to follow through on this. Thus Garchen Rinpoche in particular and the Gargon monks living outside of Tibet are kindly requesting you to please inform us at your earliest convenience whether you will be able to support this plan for the new construction.

Gargon Administrative Committee

Personal Message of H.E. Garchen Rinpoche: I have received this letter of request from the Gargon Administrative Committee and their plea is truly very important and urgent. I have been abroad for many years and was thus unable to directly tend to the monastery. Since the administration needs to rely on me, they can’t help it but to direct their concern to me. It is thus my greatest hope that we will accomplish this as soon as possible. Due to the urgency, first I would like to complete the monks’ quarters and thereafter the rest of the construction.

“Everyone who helps support a stable center for beings to study and practice the Buddhadharma accumulates vast merit through their contribution. Even beyond this lifetime, they will gather merit for as long as the center exists. It is like pouring a drop of water into the vast ocean. The drop will remain in-separable from the ocean for as long as the ocean exists.”
